Homecoming 2009

These were taken at a nearby country club. We had actually had someone come by and complain that we were there. I could see complaining if we were in the way or disrupting in someway. However, we were no where near anyone and still had complaints. Keep in mind that half that a few of the kids live in the neighborhood where the country club resides and have a right to be there...with guests. It's funny how some people are...we were simply taking photos prior to our children going to the dance.

Anyway, enough complaining. These were really my first attempts at using flash in outdoor portraits.

The photo above was actually a BIG mistake that I actually fell in love with because of the spotlight affect. I was using ETTL.. I know this a big "no no" but oh well. I had been shooting up close to them. When I backed up the meter set this off like i was trying to shoot in the dark. Really, really blown out. I saw this quickly when I chimped so I adjusted and reshot. However, some adjustments brought this into acceptable range...at least for me and totally beat the reshot photo's. Now to only know exactly how to make this happen on purpose...

Some fill from the left on this one. Still TTL but I increased my exposure by 1 stop.

More TTL but this time I dropped the exposure by 2 stops.

Still TTL but I dropped by 4 stops.
